Main Page Right Way Out Summary The Plot The Characters

Hey... Can you read this sentence?

It's not gonna be easy finding the prefect escape route, will it?

Right Way Out is going to be an isometric horror game made by yours truly, taking inspiration and elements from Bollywood horror films, such as the spooky and often gaudy vfx, ghoulish villains, as well as tales of revenge.

What'll be the plot of the game?

The premise is that you're a divorced accountant from Tiruchirappalli, who has been tasked to search for his ex-wife in a long-abandoned ancient manor that is haunted by demons. Uncovering the right secrets and stuff will bring you to the true good ending. Yes, there are gonna be multiple endings when done in certain orders, a la Shadow the Hedgehog (2005) and The Stanley Parable (2013).

This project is gonna take a while to build; so to avoid rushing the whole thing, I'm building up the art, music and story first, before actually working on the game itself. I won't be seeking any funds for this game as it'll be made on an open-source game engine.

Back in 2022, I had thought about making Right Way Out about a cricket player rescuing his teammates from a serial killer, but that didn't come to fruition. But this time around? I'm making it about investigating some secrets and plot twists in order to reveal the right path to freedom. This time I'm not giving up on the project.

I hadn't gotten around to planning/making a proper game until today. The last time I tried out game developing was during college back in 2022 when I was doing Bachelor of Design (which I couldn't succeed at). I had to build a working game prototype in the span of 6 weeks. That didn't get me anywhere.

What else to say?

For the graphics, I'm taking an approach with the style of old MS-DOS games that use VGA graphics for the final build. As for the beta I'll be using EGA graphics. I find these two visual graphics more feasible for me. I'm not really aiming for the game to have perfect visuals, but rather have it look chaotically stylized to my interest.

I've done as much homework as possible on Queer Representation. I've made a transgender character who will play a pivotal part of the game's story. I've always thought that some of the representation of queer people in some media, especially Bollywood movies, feels kinda not up to date. Take for instance Kanchana. While I think the movie's not all that bad, I think making a trans character to be more hostile and become an 'evil' spirit isn't always guaranteed to be a hit amongst the Queer community; but then again that's just my personal thoughts so *shrugs* make of that what you will.

The transgender character that I've made will have a more hopeful, resilient and lively personality; someone with a right to retaliate, should the situation get out of hand. Her name... is Ushas.

What game engine will you be using?

The Godot Engine. It's hands down a beginner's coice for those who don't know what building a game is like. The Godot engine's even open-source, so you can build a game for free. How neat is that? There's even some nifty options for either making a 2D or 3D game! In this instance I'll be using Godot for making an isometric game. There are some resources out there that show how it's all done.

The Characters

Ushas

Hailing from the capital of Quebec, Ushas is a transgender keytarist, and a member of a Canadian synth/rock band known as Cosmic Walkers.

She has a level-headed attitude, and in spite of the tyrannical world she's been in, she seems unfazed; desensitized even. No matter how many times the trolls hurl insults at her, she makes them real idiots by ignoring their cut-throat demands and remaining in her own lane. However that doesn't mean she's always got a happy-go-lucky disposition; she knows when to straight-up retaliate should things get out of control.

Ramesh

Ramesh is a tax accountant from the bustling city of Thiruchirappalli (or Trichy for short), and that's not really an important thing, to him at least. What made him find his stride was the divorce that he and his ex-wife both happily agreed to, considering that they were both forcefully (and probably illegally) married against their wishes by Ramesh's estranged, cut-throat auntie.

Leela

Leelavathi, also known as Leela, is rather shy, mostly from dealing with family conflict over the years. Leela is the ex-wife of Ramesh, but the both of them seem to be on good terms; they both agreed to getting a divorce after being unwillingly married by Ramesh's auntie. She has a heart for Ushas, a transgender keytarist from Montreal, so all hope isn't all that lost
